Essential Pooja Room Vastu Tips

Pooja Room Vastu has always played a key role in the design of a Vastu-friendly and positive home. Our mandirs are sacred spaces, created not just with the idea of divine faith and prayer, but spirituality in mind.

At Alive Studio, we focus our design sensibilities around great energy which is why we also believe in the importance of Vastu Shastra for Mandir location, placement of idols, the colours we use and so much more that Puja Room Vastu explains.

1. Which direction is best for the Pooja Room?

Best Direction for Pooja room

The Vastu Shastra principles explain the aspect ofpooja room direction as per vastu in a way, that the Mandir should be located in the North-East direction of the home. While North-east is the divine direction, north or east as alternatives is acceptable as well.

Something we strongly recommend when deciding on mandir direction in home is to avoid facing the South direction while offering prayers. The idea is to channel maximum energy from the sun, making North-East the most appropriate direction.

2. Where to locate the Mandir?

Location of Mandir as per vastu

Pooja room as per vastu is best located on the ground floor if it is a multi-storeyed home. This might be limiting given most of us today reside in apartments, but there are many alternatives.

When finding an ideal location in your home, after the direction works out, the aim is to position it in the Brahmasthan. The center of a big hall, if possible, in the right direction would be where you would find the Brahmasthan.

Vastu Shastra also suggest not locating your mandir in storage space, basement, under the stairs, upper floors of a multi-storeyed home, bathroom and kitchen. If at all, the bedroom is where you can work out a place for the pooja room, then it should face away from your feet.

3. How to place the idols in your Pooja Room?

North-East is the direction you should be facing while praying, which makes it the ideal direction to place your idols. Vastu for pooja room facing also states that the idols should not face each other and not be too close to the wall either.

When designing a pooja room we make sure to include the idols that would be placed eventually, given that influences the design and final outcome as well.

4. Where to plan the door?

Whether your Pooja room has a separate space in the house or is a custom furniture piece, Vastu suggests having two doors as the entrance. A double shutter on the north or east side is the ideal direction.

Even for a small pooja unit, consider having two smaller double shutters, preferably in wood. Similarly for windows, the north and east directions are appropriately suited.

5. What should be the shape of temple at home?

Shape of temple at home

As seen in many mandirs, the gopura is of great importance to the structure. When planning a mandir at home, the same ideology is to be implemented with curated design elements.

The pyramid-shaped top is the most crucial element here to be incorporated into your puja ghar in home. If it is possible structurally, we always recommend that our clients, otherwise pooja units can be designed keeping the shape in mind.

Another aspect to keep in mind with the structure is to induce a threshold or pooja room steps design as per vastu, which we often witness with most mandirs.
