Luxe Modern Farmhouse Design Essentials

Farmhouses are often imagined as dream homes that carry every playful or luxury design aspect that one would wish to be surrounded by. Having worked with luxury interiors, modern farmhouse design is also a part of our forte and experiments with bespoke design.

What Does Modern Farmhouse Decor Really Mean?

When it comes to designing farmhouses, it’s not just one space or one home that forms part of the bigger picture, it’s a habitat that our clients wish to develop most often, and also what we do for them.

The unparalleled connection between the built and surrounding environment, if done tastefully, is the true essence of modern farmhouse interior design.

Above all, farmhouse design is a culmination of many things, from enhanced scale, expected warmth and welcoming nature, and landscape design, to interiors and architecture. At Alive Studio, our aim is to deliver an expansive home that is the epitome of luxury.

Why Consider Modern Farmhouse Interior Design Ideas?

Farmhouses aren’t just dream homes, they are an escape from city life for the modern city dweller looking for that little sliver of peace. When designing such homes, we are often questioned why we need them to be wholly designed.

The answer would be, for them to be truly our homes. Every little corner is created out of a habit or way of living that our clients tell us about. We create our ideas of living and design around them, only to deliver a home that is a tasteful creation.

Here are some design elements we have been exploring and enhancing through the years across modern farmhouse design.

1. A blend of open planning and private spaces

A blend of open planning and private spaces

With a large-scale footprint, farmhouses offer a lot to experiment with. A combination of open plans and private spaces is something we like to play with. There are many enticing layouts that can be developed with multiple seating clusters, around the same spaces.

In living rooms especially, there’s immense scope to play with the architecture and its scale. In the same living space, a mix of cosy corners and more open seating would allow for the best utilisation of the available square footage.

The perfect illusion of more in a large-scale project is what develops curiosity and the comfort of living simultaneously in a modern farmhouse

2. Allow the outdoors to come inside

Allow the outdoors to come inside

Any farmhouse would have a lot of open landscape around the built property, which gives way to a lot of possibilities for natural light and the outdoors to seep in. More natural light coming in, only means the interiors would be connected to the outdoors in an organic manner.

The feeling of opulence and expansiveness also comes with custom furniture put together tastefully inside architecture that receives ample light, exudes mood-enhancing colours and is ideally a culmination of a seamless transition of design elements.

3. Go for all the neutrals

Go for all the neutrals

A challenge that we have often beautifully tackled with a modern farmhouse is that there’s a mesmerizing combination of neutrals at play. With an enormous space, one might be enticed to play with a plethora of colours but our suggestion is to keep the base neutral.

There will be many spaces in a farmhouse to throw in pops of colours, accent furniture pieces, detailed wall enhancements, curated accessories and so much more. Providing a neutral canvas to all of them is what makes farmhouse design a playground for many elements of luxury.

With modern farmhouse interior design style, we’re always looking to make that lasting impression of a statement that speaks of a great scale of luxury.

4. Invest in custom furniture

Invest in custom furniture

While it may seem like a great idea to fill in furniture sourced from the many great brands that are working towards creating statements of luxury, there is nothing better than bespoke furniture made to suit your needs and liking.

During the design stage, our modern farmhouse design plans are created based on custom furniture pieces being placed inside the space. We understand the needs of the farmhouse and of course the client to be able to deliver what they expect out of the farmhouse.

Let us help you imagine something here, a reading nook overlooking the nestled greens surrounding the farmhouse. A serene feeling immediately washes over when imagining this, which is the exact impression that custom furniture leaves behind.

5. How can we forget lighting?

Material palette and gorgeous light fixtures

There will be many statement pieces that will grace a farmhouse’s interiors in terms of lighting, to truly achieve a well-rounded design language.

Something that is a constant feature of farmhouse images is double-height lobbies, living rooms and even triple-height spaces if the architecture allows. These are the perfect spots where lighting fixtures can take centre stage to put across an idea of magnificence.

Larger-than-life lighting fixtures coupled with many layers are a trend we love to follow up on because they add depth without having to do a lot. With a neutral base, a highlighted material palette and gorgeous light fixtures, there’s just so much that can be done.

6. A play of materials

A play of materials

When an extensive home is a canvas, there are just so many materials that come to mind. Selecting appropriate materials is the key to defining the style and outlook of a modern farmhouse.

With a palette of natural marble and wood or plush fabrics and gold, dark tones or lighter shades of wood, there are many options to explore and come down to for a farmhouse, or any home for that matter.

Achieving a colour and material palette is our first priority with residential design because there are usually many materials at play that need to blend with each to finally see it all coming together.

From the moment you step into the premises of a farmhouse, it should feel like you’re being welcomed into a home away from city life.

7. Just Bathrooms or Spas?

Just Bathrooms or Spas

We entitle a lot of importance to bath spaces in farmhouses because these are spaces where you can put up your feet and really unwind. Add on accessories, the correct ambient lighting and the materials that induce serenity and peace for you, that’s the kind of bath space you need!

Think of the bathroom as a spa, something that helps you relax, now all of those elements are enhanced and induced into it. There’s no better way of completing your bathroom’s design and living a better way.

8. Think of entertainment too

Think of entertainment too

Being at the farmhouse, you’re going to be away from the city and its many attractions and activities of it. This is why we need entertainment spaces like a theatre, game room or even a basement full of everything that engages adults, kids and more.

Incorporating such spaces into the layout of the entire farmhouse will not only result in proper utilization of space but rather a well-developed experience.

9. Last, but not least is landscaping

landscaping design for farmhouse

The footprint of a farmhouse is wide-reaching in terms of architecture and the surrounding land. There will be a lot of scope for landscaped greens around the main property. As an Interior designer in Gurgaon we always recommend our clients look into creating a well-landscaped dream, not just a home.

There can be many species of plants, trees and mini gardens around the main home. Elements like these are only part of the experience of a modern farmhouse.
