When it comes to Kids’ room interior design, there are a plethora of ideas and options that come to mind. The many colour palettes to experiment with, playful elements and the kind of spaces that one can create as part of a kid’s bedroom, it is almost unbelievable.
What did you wish to have in your bedroom as a child? We’re sure it was something uber cool, full of things you loved and of course for it to be your own! Kids look at all of those when they think of their bedroom, their own space.
We have always loved building on the ideas that our clients bring to us for their children’s bedrooms, some wish for an all-wooden theme, while many others want a colourful playroom.
Hence, we have curated some of the best ideas to explore when thinking of kids interior design.
1. Create your kid’s dreamland
Dreamy spaces often appeal to children, and here’s how you can add that touch to their bedroom but with a touch of luxury and sophistication. We often like to use chandeliers that look like clouds, or wall murals with fantasy-based elements.
Children room design is as fun as you make it, with backlit walls, lamps and even ceiling lights that will just turn around the entire look of the space.
2. The timeless beauty
The concern we often come across with parents is that their child might grow out of how they design his/her bedroom right now. And as fun, as it is, it is not every day one wishes to change up.
This is when we recommend our clients focus on interior design for their kid’s bedrooms as a long-term investment. We use colours that are more neutral and have furniture pieces that would more than likely be used by a teenager or even an adult. That is what a timeless beauty looks like!
3. A room full of pastel hues
Pastels are extremely in trend with children bedroom interior for the sole reason that they add subtle highlights to the space, without being overpowering. For growing kids, you need a balance looking bedroom and pastel hues can do just that, perfectly!
Accent walls in a pastel pink or green go a long way in keeping it minimal but still have that bold touch of a statement-making colour.
4. A jungle-themed paradise
Wallpapers dipped in scaled-up patterns have taken the interior design industry by storm. We love using animal-themed or botanical-themed wallpaper in kids’ bedrooms, for they lend a lot of visual activity to the space.
Making a statement is an important aspect of turn-key interior, which is why we love simple design ideas like wallpaper with minimal furniture. There’s more to look at and more room for fun and play.
5. The floral haven
While we’re discussing patterns, something we can’t skip over is florals! Doused in flowers, wallpapers and even panelling is a great way to introduce a backdrop for the furniture in the room.
Just with florals, we have been able to create different ambiences, from light and airy to dark fantasy spaces for the kids. There are many other creative ways in which florals can be used in furniture as well, to give that extra touch share of amazing!
6. For when you need more storage!
With children bedroom interior another concern is storage, especially with much younger ones. Parents often find a lot of paraphernalia around the room with no space to store all of it.
A storage focussed bedroom can do wonders for both children and parents. The kids will have a lot of things to play around with in their room while adding to the storage space.
7. The ultimate playroom
Our focus with kids’ bedrooms is on making them more playful and full of activity. In many kids room images, you will see slides, climbing nets and even climbing walls being added to the bedroom.
All of these elements induce a playful vibe to the space, while also adding more for the growing kids to play with and have fun with. Our clients often come to us with requests of adding a play pit or a climbing wall and we have loved executing such bedrooms.
8. Go a little Scandinavian
Scandinavian design is minimal, use of lighter coloured woods and simple furniture which is perfect for kids room design for living. The warm textures will make the room more comfortable for them, cosier and ultimately more livable.
Simple design elements also go a long way when thinking of a bedroom that your kids will be using even after they grow up. Throw in a little touch of grey or neutral colours, and you have the bedroom ready for a toddler or a teenager even.
9. The modern marvel
As an interior designer, modern is our go-to theme for a neutral kids’ bedroom. Simple and stylish, a touch of modern art, the perfectly modern shades of neutrals and there you have it. Trust us, your kids will feel right at home with all of these design elements deployed into a space of their own.
With a modern theme, there’s really nothing that can go wrong as you will end up with a bedroom that is of today, which is exactly what the children need.

10. Bunk it up!
With kids interior design, we have often come across the request of adding a bunk bed. We all wanted a bunk bed at some point right? It works wonders in a bedroom for siblings or even an only child.
Since we work with custom furniture, it is possible to have a bunk bed on top and a study underneath it. Even for a bedroom with less space, an idea like this does beautifully, turning the bedroom into just what the kids need.
11. The one with the stars
A planetary or galaxy-theme for children bedroom interior has been loved enormously by kids because of the fantasy it builds and the visual activity there is. There’s so much to experiment with, you could have a wallpaper with the entire solar system on the ceiling with futuristic custom furniture that just fits perfectly into the theme.
Light will only add to the ambience of the planetary theme which will further enhance children’s curiosity.
12. If your kids are into books
While it is surprising for the children of today, we do often get requests for a reading nook or a bookshelf. It is a great element to have in the bedroom if you wish for your kids to grow up around books, reading them and just adding that habit.
A circular reading nook built into the storage space is something we love to add if the space allows. Otherwise, a bay window does the trick as well. Bold solid colours do very well with design elements like these.
13. The one with all the colours
The first aspect that most of our clients come to us with is that they want a colourful space, which is fair. Kids’ bedrooms should have a cheery vibe and a dash of happiness brought in through bright colours.
This is when we go big with colour theory and try to use as many colours but in a subtle manner. The wall can be one statement colour, while the furnishings can take on many others. All of them then balance each other out!

14. You can add a swing too!
A swing is just what the kids need, if, of course, the space allows for it, to turn their bedroom into a fun space. Corners are a great spot to add a ceiling-hung swing or even a floor mount one.
Swings can also double up as reading spaces or just the spot for your kid to do pretty much everything. Trust us, it is the design element you surely need in a kid’s bedroom.
15. Go all the way with patterns
We’re often shy with patterns when it comes to designing our own bedrooms, but with the kids there’s really no limit to the horizon. They will love almost any beautiful pattern, curated to their liking.
We sometimes like to experiment with the flooring as well, since that is where most time is spent, playing on the floor.
