Living rooms are the heart of any home, and where we spend most of our time. While the perfect palette for a space like it doesn’t exist, there are many two two colour combination for living room walls and furniture that you can give a try!
Colours are a very subjective choice in interior design, not all of us like a lighter palette while many others might not agree with a poppy colour combination. We like our home to be painted in what we like as individuals, and often living rooms are where we tend to experiment the most.
Anyone would choose just one colour to highlight a living space, which has been quite the trend for a while. When we asked our Principal Designer, Anupam Singh about this, she suggested that not just one but a two colour combination for living room is what brings the best out of it.
Why a palette of two colours works just perfectly is one balances out the other and opens up the way for many many combinations to experiment with! We have curated a few combinations here for you, that have been tried in many of our own projects as well.
1. Evergreen monochromes everywhere, anywhere
We can all agree that black, white and all the monochromes have a special space on the shelf for most of us? Of course, we can.
There isn’t a better duo than black and white and their power to dress up space well can’t be underestimated either. Play with textures, have patterned rugs in this modern two colour combination for living room and witness your living room come to life instantly.
One of the easiest ways to achieve a minimal look is to play white in an extravagant manner and add pops of black in accessories or artwork, and you have your white, minimal residence in place. Bare white walls are quite the statement in themselves.
The options are just limitless when it comes to the dynamic duo of black and white, fabric patterns are another way to jazz it up a bit. Have a statement chair say all you want about your style, there’s really nothing else that you would need.
2. Add a pop of something bright on the walls
A trend for a long time, but still working wonders is the idea of adding a highlight wall in your living room. And here’s our take on it, don’t just stop at the highlight wall, let your furniture also complement it to achieve a balanced space.
If you would ask us about the easiest way to spruce up your living room and also the best way, it would be by adding a highlight wall. Add a little texture to it, through paint or wallpaper even and your living space will be golden!
The magic that a highlight wall also does is that it allows your furniture to stand out beautifully! Everything becomes centred in front of that wall, which creates an extremely harmonious blend of colours.

3. Bring in the soothing greens
Many shades of green have a soothing effect on the eyes and at a time when well-being and interiors couldn’t be focussed upon more, greens are the way to go.
Symbolic of growth, green is the most serene shade to have in your living room. For an open and airy look, the colour combination for living room can be two hues of green, say sage and mint green. One being light and the other being a deeper shade will balance each other out.
As green is becoming a colour of trends, it is easier to find decor that develops a wholesome outlook.
4. Pair your neutrals with your favourite pops
If a real impact is what you wish to have in your living space, without really making a bold statement in terms of space then this is the colour palette you need.
Let your furniture bathe in serene neutrals and add a pop of primary colours through decor, and see the magic unfold. If you are feeling braver, go ahead and paint a wall red, or blue! Even a coloured isn’t a far-fetched possibility when creating a bold and statement-making living room.
Principal designer Anupam Singh suggests using pared-down shades of the bright primary colours, rather than colour-blocking the shades, to have a more authentic-looking space.
5. It’s time to blend the hot and cool
Warm colours and cool colours have their own sets of chain reactions when it comes to experimenting with them in space. It is also important to mention that their perfect blend is an ideal choice as a palette.
We often consult with our clients to pick a warm shade like orange or tone down red, to go with a cool shade like a hue of green or blue. Such extroverted colours not only form something that’s soothing to the eye but a mood pleaser as well.
